Chiarella

Naturally, the spring and its qualities, which gushes from the dolomitic depths of Mount Grona, were long well-known to the valley dwellers and inhabitants of the small hamlets of Plesio. The waters were distributed from the end of the 19th century by Dr. Castelli, who was the first to certify its important characteristics, notably recording the sodium levels among the lowest in Europe, and the perfect balance of calcium, magnesium and potassium with a perfectly neutral pH. Over the years, it has expanded its market and improved its industrial processes, led by a woman, Dr. Giugno, while in 2015 Andrea Vaccani would represent the third generation working in the company and the fifth of those operating in the world of beverages.

Chiarella's CEO, Andrea Vaccani, had for years had wanted to put his own stamp on the enterprise without losing the identity of the company and its area of origin. He aimed for a natural evolution of the brand, while remaining faithful to Chiarella's history. He set about finding someone who could rework the container, the appearance of which represents them, and the product, namely water. He found Lorenzo Palmeri, who was able to best interpret the deep relationship that this element has with this particular landscape. The work took about nine months, and the bottle would be created in June 2020.

The format was new, it was a label that was no longer a label, but a redesigned cap. The 0.70 litre glass bottle of Acqua Chiarella itself emphasises the purity and transparency of the water, turning the container into a kind of sculpture and putting the water itself back at the centre of the product. Another paradoxical and complex element to design is the presence of absence.

The choice was made to remove the label, bringing the true content of the product, i.e. water, back to the centre. From an ecological point of view, the project is also highly virtuous as the container is reused and perishable products are reduced to a minimum: a small label on the neck and a recyclable aluminium cap. The bottle has won some of the world's most important design awards: the If Design Award 2021, the Good Design Award 2021 and is a finalist for the 2022 edition of the Compasso d'Oro.
