Tennis Como

The Como Tennis club boasts an illustrious history. Founded in 1930, it is one of the oldest clubs in Italy and has since its foundation distinguished itself for sporting excellence, attracting enthusiasts and champions of the day, including Lucia Valerio, Valentino Taroni, Vittoria Tonolli, Gianni Clerici, Orlando Sirola, and other internationally renowned stars. Tennis Como has five clay courts, while the floodlighting assures play through to 11 o’clock in the evening. The Red Plus court offers a surface very similar to clay but one that is frost-proof with exceptional drainage to ensure play is possible outdoors even in winter.

The centre court has a stand for 250 spectators, the capacity of which is more than doubled at the time of the ATP Challenger Città di Como, an international tournament that takes place in the last week of August. The event has attracted players of the calibre of Simone Bolelli, Filippo Volandri, Fabio Fognini, Thomas Muster, Tommy Robredo and many champions of today who were just promising youngsters at the time, such as Jannik Sinner, Andry Rublev, Felix Auger Aliassime, Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego. In early July there is also an international ITF Senior tournament, and in June there is the nationally important youth tournament.

The Villa Olmo Tennis School club is one of the Standard Tennis Schools recognised by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation and offers lessons at different levels for adults and children. Its teachers are all duly certified and registered in the Federation's national register. In summer, multi-sport summer camps are organised for children from the age of seven upwards, while the long list of facilities is completed by a gym equipped with treadmills, exercise bikes, weight machines, benches, wall bars and mirrors for the use of members.

Located just a stone's throw from Como’s lakefront, next to the historic Villa Olmo and its picturesque grounds, the club house sits perfectly in this architecturally and scenically prestigious setting. It is an elegant building whose exterior echoes the colours of the nearby neoclassical Villa; inside, the bar-restaurant and members’ common rooms exude a retro atmosphere that reflects the club's long history. On entering, the visitor’s attention is drawn to a large display case filled with trophies and memorabilia from Tennis Como. The restaurant offers simple and tasty dishes, with particular care always paid to both taste and presentation. In winter, the club welcomes members and their guests into a sophisticated banqueting hall dominated by a large fireplace, while the outside tables are also a delight on warm days.
