The history of the La Costa winery has its roots in the fertile territory of the Montevecchia natural park and the Curone Valley, in the province of Lecco. Founded in 1992 by Giordano Crippa, eager to bring back to life a portion of land that had been abandoned for four decades, La Costa is today one of the twenty-four companies that form the IGT Terre Lariane, recognized since the 2008 harvest. Despite the area of Como and Lecco was historically planted with vines and praised for its wine-growing vocation, its labels have only begun to gain national recognition in recent years, thanks to the commitment and work of farmers and producers who have systematised their skills and, above all, the love for their territory.
After a careful renovation of abandoned farmhouses, according to the criteria of conservative restoration, and a major cleaning of the terraces in order to replant new cuttings, the first wines with the La Costa label were born with the 2000 harvest. The steep terraces, whose altitude varies between 350 and 500 m giving an irregular shape to the terrain and a different sun exposure, guarantee a multi-faceted raw material which translates into a wide and varied offer made up of twelve labels, all to be discovered during tastings and events organized by the estate. La Costa wines are characterized by a strong personality and a very recognizable flavor due to the calcareous marl of the soil rich in mineral salts. Among the numerous varieties cultivated with passion by the Crippa family, there are Pinot Noir, Merlot, Riesling, and Verdese, a native variety recognized by the IGT brand. With an annual production of around 50,000 bottles of reds, whites, sparkling wines and rosés, La Costa positions itself in a market segment of enthusiasts and sector specialists made up of wine bars and restaurants distributed throughout Northern Italy.
But the Curone Valley is also famous for the production of the highly appreciated Montevecchia cheeses and for the cultivation of the fragrant rosemary, with which La Costa produces Prati Magri, a line of organic cosmetics, and Tom Time Gin. Vegetables and ancient corn are also grown in the garden and employed in the production of preserves, flour, and biscuits. Equipped with eleven accommodations and a restaurant where you can rediscover traditional dishes with an innovative twist, La Costa is an authentic oasis of peace immersed in an extremely lively and fascinating naturalistic and historical-artistic context.
