J.AND.C is the only company in the world producing cosmetics made with integral sericin, a silk protein with extraordinary regenerative properties. This innovative project began almost by chance during a European Community study focused on recovering sericin from the water used in silk thread boiling. Giada Mieli, the company’s founder, recalls how it all started: "One of the main expenses for dye houses and silk manufacturers was buying enzymes to remove sericin and help wastewater flow. When the funding for the project ran out, my father and uncle decided to continue and built a machine to recover and freeze-dry it." At the time, Giada worked in a communications agency and was asked to find an application for this silk powder. With the support of a renowned cosmetologist and a thorough research phase, she successfully launched her ambitious venture. The first product developed was a soap, followed by face creams, aftershave, shampoos, and hair creams.
Today, J.AND.C offers a line of 22 products, available online, by appointment at the company, and through a select network of retailers, including pharmacies and medical practices. Unlike other producers, J.AND.C's integral sericin is extracted only from selected silk threads, pure and free of artificial coloring. Each thread has its own “identity card” ensuring traceability and quality. Throughout the entire production process, from thread to finished product, the sericin retains its natural properties: the ability to absorb moisture and retain it within the cocoon, and to quickly regenerate fibroin when cracked.
A 2006 analysis conducted in Japan confirmed the exceptional regenerative capacity of this protein, showing visible benefits to skin and hair within just 72 hours. J.AND.C products are thus deeply moisturizing, regenerating, and anti-aging, suitable for all skin types. Founded in 1999, J.AND.C—named after Giada and her siblings—is a symbol of quality and innovation Made in Como. The company partners with luxury hotels and prestigious villas on Lake Como, supplying exclusive courtesy lines.
The recovery of integral sericin is a prime example of circular economy and sustainability, making J.AND.C one of the region’s pioneering companies in environmental responsibility. But J.AND.C is more than just a cosmetics brand: it is a tribute to Como’s rich silk heritage. Through research and innovative products, it continues to elevate ancient knowledge, turning it into modern solutions for beauty and well-being.
