In 1893, the establishment became a trattoria with accommodation and over time established itself as the best hotel in the heart of the city. In the following years, the current Piazza Cavour was built and the hotel took the name Hotel Barchetta Excelsior.
The American Bar, a meeting point for Como residents and guests visiting the destination, completes the offer.
In 1995, the hotel was acquired by the Villa d'Este group and underwent a renovation that increased the number of rooms available to a maximum of 84 rooms.
