Where to Sleep

Casa Isola

Just a few steps from the tranquil waters of Lake Como, hidden in a charming courtyard, stands a timelessly enchanting residence. This house, dating back to the 1100s, is one of the oldest in Sala Comacina, a picturesque medieval village overlooking one of the lake’s most scenic bays. Built from hand-cut stone, it rises like a small tower near one of the town’s three beautiful inlets, offering an authentic and evocative atmosphere.

The village houses huddle together, making way for small squares and cobbled alleys that lead to scenic views and hidden corners. Here, among intimate little beaches, lakeside cafés and restaurants, time seems to slow down, allowing you to savor the true essence of lakeside living. Recently renovated with great respect for its history, the house preserves its original features: lime-finished walls, stone floors and the wooden staircase that still connects the kitchen to the living room today.

It’s the ideal place for those seeking an authentic experience, immersed in the tranquility of a village rich in history and tradition. The house is spread over three floors, featuring a charming cellar on the ground floor where guests will find a canoe for exploring the lake, two bicycles for venturing through the village streets, and everything needed for relaxing in the sun, including sun loungers and a parasol. The main entrance opens onto a welcoming kitchen, while the living room is located on the first floor. On the second floor, the master bedroom boasts a balcony with a view and a private bathroom, creating the perfect retreat for a romantic or relaxing stay.

Facing the village lies Isola Comacina - the only island on Lake Como - a place steeped in history and legend. Every year in June, it hosts the evocative Festival of San Giovanni, a celebration that blends faith and tradition with historical reenactments and spectacular fireworks reflected in the water. Thanks to the ferry service connecting Sala Comacina with the lake’s main towns, it’s easy to explore the region and be enchanted by its extraordinary beauty. A place where time seems to have stood still, where the lake whispers ancient tales and life flows at a gentle, unhurried pace.
