Casual Food

La Baia di Moltrasio

Overlooking the lake, inside the building that has housed the Canottieri Moltrasio rowing club since 1902, the La Baia di Moltrasio is truly a restaurant of gastronomic excellence for the area. Its recipes of its fine cuisine draw on the Italian and Lombard tradition, but are also streamlined, reinvented and constantly renewed by Chef Alessio Rossi. Born in Canturino, he has since he was a youngster dedicated himself to his great passion for cooking, which he soon turned into a job that saw him to travel around Italy and beyond, working in renowned kitchens all over the world. In countries that include France, the United States, Switzerland and Japan, Chef Rossi has come into contact with different customs and new methods of working with food that have shaped his creative approach to cooking.
With an eye on foreign influences and new trends, but never betraying the Italian culinary culture at the heart of each of his dishes, the Chef offers genuine, yet refined cuisine.

“We Italians have a great advantage; we have a huge variety of domestically-produced ingredients. For this reason we have a cuisine that is very varied in terms of flavours, fragrances, and recipes, with a creative culinary tradition that is also linear and healthy”, explains Alessio Rossi.

There is never a shortage of lake fish recipes on the menu, including rice with perch, a traditional dish from Como and an iconic feature of the menu at La Baia. The fish arrives fresh from two local fishermen, while the meat and seasonal vegetables are also local, supplied by carefully selected producers. There are over 250 different wines in the cellar, 95% of which are Italian and 5% French, ranging from simple wines suitable for even the most inexperienced palates, to niche and decidedly more complex wines of the highest quality. A wine connoisseur, Chef Rossi selects each one personally, carefully seeking them out over the length and breadth of Italy, from Val D'Aosta to Sicily.

Featuring an indoor dining room and a romantic balcony with blue railings, running round the entire perimeter of the elegant building, La Baia di Moltrasio is perfect both for groups and for intimate, cosy dining. Offering a wonderful view of the lake and the eastern shore during the day, and an enchanting atmosphere in the evening, the restaurant is much-appreciated all year round by those who live by the lake, and those from the cities of Como and Milan, and neighbouring Ticino, while in summer its clientele includes also many foreign tourists wishing to enjoy typical Italian dishes, without forgoing the sophistication of contemporary cuisine.
